Lots of lead time for Coeur d' Alane ID.

Wed Jun 05, 2013 8:47 pm

Unlimited hydro racing returns to Coeur d' Alane ID. this Aug. 30 to Sept. 1st. As part of the weekend, the airshow over the Lake will include HFC's F7F, F8F, Spitfire, and P-51B and it looks like HFM's Greg Anders is taking VAL-HALLA over to do a two ship Heritage trribute with Impatient Virgin along with acts being added as time goes along. It's a beautiful venue for racing and for flying.

Great news. Just hope the fans can maintain order, that's one of the reasons they were halted. There is an old hydro here in Spokane that has been in storage for many, many years. Don't know what the condition is. May be this will inspire them to do something with it.

It's the 1950's U-25 Miss Spokane driven by the late Rex Manchester, a 'spare' hullmate of Miss Thriftway U-60 hull #1. It's involved in an inter family spat and she's in very poor shape.
I haven't seen whether or not the Hydro Museum will take some of the restored hulls over for a 'tribute' race, but ALLISONS and MERLINS on water draw people to the lake like grilled onions do at a fair.

Youtube 'Miss Bardahl ride' for a 160 MPH blast on Lake Chelan in 2008.

All in all I think it is good news for the area. The riots in the 60's left a real bad taste here. They have been trying to have a race for many years. In public areas no alcohol, that is positive.
250 volunteers are needed, I am going to be one of them. Can't miss out on a Merlin or Allison making noise in the nostalgia class.

Adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene resort, there is a memorial to a late hydroplane driver. It's topped with a nice brass model of an F-86.
He was obviously a ex-AF fighter pilot.

Anyone have details?

Warner Gardiner, driver of NOTRE DAME 7, Miss Lapeer, and killed in Detroit when the EAGLE Electric 'Lil Buzzard' caught a roller and disintegrated.

Most of Silverwood Amusement Park is built on the locale of what was the airport from the 20's/30's.
