"We currently project that it will take nearly $3,000,000 to put together an expedition that can do what needs to be done. It's a lot of money, but it's a small price to pay for finding Amelia," Gillespie said.

P.T. Barnum would be proud! pop2

Couldn't you buy your own Electra and fly around the world yourself for that kind of money??

How many planes that are on dry land could be restored with 3 million dollars? I guess you don't get quite the attention for preserving a piece of history instead of fishing up some pieces of scrap metal that only may belong to Amelia Earhart.

Her aircraft has been discovered next to Glenn Miller's Norseman.

I bet that's from something in this picture... (HINT: it's the right side of the picture)

Isn't that a picture of the famous Lee Ki Maru?

If it's legit...and there is an honest chance that's it's really the plane, then I'd guess that some cable TV network (Discovery networks, Nat Geo, etc) would be glad to pony up the $3 million.

A 2-3 hour documentary that solves the mystery would be a huge hit. $3 million would be very affordable for something like that.

If they don't, I'd suspect it's because of a lack of credibility of TIGHAR.

We'll see.

Alhough it might be a good vehicle for subtle humor as the Canadian Film Board found out in The Defender, starring Bob Diemert. It isn't often you can make a cult classic on such a low budget.
