The aircraft -- Douglas A-20 light bomber -- was lost in 1943. It was one of the 8,000 planes sent to Russia by the US via the Russian Far East and Siberia as part of the Lend-Lease programme of military assistance to then USSR during the war.

The A-20 was a three-man light bomber that served with the Royal Air Force, US Army Air Forces and Soviet Air Force, which operated around 3,000 of them. The aircraft was highly regarded by Soviet pilots, who knew it as the Boston.

"The plane crashed into the water by the railway bridge," Reserve Air Force Col. Vyacheslav Filippov said. "The crew of four was killed. There is no information about the Boston being raised after the crash.

"Divers have already searched for it, but so far have found nothing. In recent years, the waters of the Yenisei have receded, and the aircraft should now be close to the bank."

An agreement was signed between the wartime allies - Britain, the US and the then USSR - in fall 1941 on the delivery of combat aircraft to Russia.

A series of 26 airfields were built across eastern Russia to accept aircraft. At least 87 American aircrew died during the delivery flights.

A worthy endeavor, and I hope they are able to find and raise it... one, to bring the crew home, and two, perhaps to increase the number of extant A-20s, even if it is all torn up. Maybe there will be enough left to actually rebuild it as a tribute to this crew and all those who flew the AL-SIB route.

so, The A-20...How many complete or very near complete airframes are out there?

Paul Allen has one doesn't he? isn't that the one under restoration in Chino?
There is one in Lancaster needs restoration if they can find all the parts
The USAFM has one
Doesn't Weeks have one

Rod Lewis owns the one in Chino and Kermit Weeks owns the one that was at Lancaster. Seems like Jerry Yagen has one in NZ or Australia being restored. I don't know of one owned by Paul Allen.

I am definitely slipping some gears :roll: , usually the registry is the first place I look 8) ...I haven't a frickin clue as to what my thought process is/was :roll: ..............oh wait! :shock: found it....my head was up my a s s.. :axe: ..how bout that

I was at Monin is Russia about 15 years ago and an A-20 had just arrived.

the raaf museum "a20" isnt...she's a db7b...part of the diverted french..then dutch order.
the raaf museum had several wrecks,that were traded to precision aero...one of which was the "big nig" now going to the raf museum.
no idea whats happening with the others...as far as i know the raaf museum doesn't have any a20 projects left .

I've been wondering what the A-20 in Australia is looking like these days, sense it is at precision aerospace being gone through. But i do hope they find that Russian A-20, would be good to see the air crew given a proper resting place for the families.

sorry if the later was answered but, no that's rod lewis' A-20J. paul allen is the question though, i've often wondered this about some easy to grab types like F4Fs, A-20s, TBMs as well as more rare types like SB2Cs, Bf-110s, Ju-88s and whatnot. I'm willing to be he as probably does have claim to a few of those type mentioned as he supposedly does with that Ju-87D. Nothing appears on the FAA registery but there too, we see that he owns, or at least vulcan has two F-8s not mentioed else where (except in the few pictures that show them, along with an F-105G). anyone have more info (i guess if they did and could spill the beans, the would have :lol: ).
