Shipping by sea in barrels can save money in some instances. No weight restriction on sea barrels. read the email reply i got in regards to shipping to Costa Rica. Of course YMMV. Happy shipping!

PS: 55 GALLON barrel to Costa Rica= $120.00 takes 9 days.

Thank you for your request. We handle the size of barrel or box you send to us. We have a set price rate for the Jumbo Barrel 14.5 cft / 55 gal barrel, depending the destination. Please let us know the size and destination and we can give you the quote. Cargo needs to be deliver to 2800 NW 105th Avenue - Doral, FL 33172.

Best regards,

I'm guessing they put these in a standard container rather than just floating the barrels behind a passenger boat attached by a rope.

Old timey individual boxes/stuff in cargo nets before cans. Unstacked dockside, netted, swung aboard and lowered then restacked in the holds. Time and labor intensive.
