Since moving to PNG I’ve had several chats with some expats here and have been told by several reliable sources that a spitfire project has recently arrived in Victoria from NSW. A MkV variant and alleged to consist of firewall and cockpit remains.

Is this project known to our Spitfire guru’s and if so could we get some more details on it.

The only one I am aware of in NSW is A58-300 JF650 which is a Mk.VIII

My first thought was a certain grumpy old man who has recently moved to NSW had seen the the light and decided to get rid of some of his stash.

When I spoke to him today he sadly informed me that he had not parted with any of his rubbish......I mean remains.

So maybe an already known project being worked on or progressed in a workshop in Victoria? Most here would know Wangaratta had jigs for some spitfire pieces.

JF650? Not a Spitfire.

A58-300 / JF620 'The Posse Spitfire' is a crash memorial in a restricted area in Western Australia.

Update on the Spitfire in Australia, it is A58-95 Mk V, squadron coded CRC, flown by Wing Cmdr. CR Caldwell in Darwin 1943.

New owner of this project is an unknown Victorian collector who is living in Melbourne, remains believed to be substantial. It is understood this project was purchased from its previous owner in NSW.

Can any one please update or add to these details?

SD.

Thanks for the update Shelldrake, here's hoping some one will come up with more details soon.

According to status cards.. A58-95 20/11/45 RAAF HQ approval under terms AFO 19/3/19 para 9 to convert ala RAAF technical salvage unit.

6AD Oakey on 22/11/45.
So converted to components 6AD Oakey.
