Did find the below thread w/your reference to a dump site webshots album link that is apparently no longer there. Looks like we'll have to sit tight on this one until they finally surface. Thx for the info!

These are at Clarke Field, but I assume not at the same site as the ones being recovered as they seem to be brand new aircraft, not combat veterans.

I wish i could see the numbers on those P-38's,that top P-38 on the right second picture.
Those fin stripes top and bottom wouldn't be green by any chance.
There was only one of those as far as i know.(Jandina 5)
21 kills or was it 25.

Will see if I can dig out the original article and perhaps the number is readable. Can't comment on what colour the stripes are though.

The Pics I recall were the ones of the p38s parked at the end of the runway and two of them being picked up by the horizontal stab on a crane and being lowered into a pit ?

Two of the machines in the pic have combat histories so maybe they aren't all brand new - I also think a lot of the machines in the pit are brand new so it is possibly the right place.

Ironically a lot of scrapped P38s were later scrapped by japanese scrap dealers in the Phillipines so it was only the buried ones that survived .

I am getting on a plane for a few days in Qatar today so I hope we can find the correct pics.

Hey, it beats the smelter. I just hope there are alot more there than anyones saying and hopefully some other types too! I wonder if there are other LARGE covered dumps that the Japanese scrappers didn't find in the south pacific.

Just came back from a 2 weeks trip to the Philippines and spent 2 days around Clarck trying to locate and visit the P-38 digging. Result : nothing.

Started at the local aeroclub : nobody had heard or seen anything (including the instructors flying daily around the area).

Went to Clarck museum : hopeless.

Then started more seriously with the Air Force : via family contacts working at Clarck AFB, went slowly all the way up the command of the Air Base. All very interested by the story but nobody was aware of anything actually happening.

Told myself : if not in the militay side of Clarck, can only be taking place on the civilian side. I therefore went to CDC (Clarck Development Corporation) but once again none of the Managers i talked to were aware of anything.

Frustrating !!

If i had not read posts from John explaining he has recently seen one of the recovered P-38, i would start to really doubt it's true or that it's actually taking place around Clarck. Indeed, even if the parties involved want to keep it "low level", i do not see how, even in a country like the Philippines, you could recover airplanes without anybody noticing.

Can anybody help with a little bit precsions about the place.
