NMUSAF, museum expansion layout information

Interesting they are bringing the C-39/DC-2 out of storage for placement the new building. Noticed a small error where they labeled the VC-118 a Lockheed aircraft.

It's going to be nice...especially the Presidential gallery for people who can't make itto the Annex.

I remember when it was just one building and everyone thought it great (Though I do miss the chapel display overlooking the WWII/modern side of the building).
And when it was two buildings, we thought it really great. (Back in the 84-85, they had an AF-wide effort to collect money for it from active duty members).
The third building is super...though putting one of the B-1s I used to work with made me feel old).

Now, what can you say? Neat.
It's almost tempting enough to move back to the Dayton area..

Which columbine aircraft is that? I can't make out the roman numerals. Is that columbine II which is parked outin the desert currently rotting away? I had heard they were gonna try and get it, but have they actually taken ownership yet?

Edit: never mind, Columbine III has been at the NMUSAF for a while now, though I don't remember seeing it when I was there in 2007. Maybe I just didn't tour that area.

Sorry to get sort of off topic, But now I'm a little confused. I know Columbine II is privately owned and was stripped partly, but what complete aircraft does Pima have that has columbine painted on it? As I thought their was only two columbine aircraft, Pima ( which I thought was III) and II.

Columbine III has been at NMUSAF since at least my first visit in 1978, but she's always been in the "Annex" hangar on the other side of the field from the main museum along with the rest of the Presidential aircraft.

Here's a pic of the Columbine at Pima I took in 2004. There's no Roman numeral after the name, so I assume it's the first.

Does anyone know if a specific C-5 Galaxy has been picked for display yet? Hopefully a Vietnam, Isreali lift, Gulf war I and II vet. I vote for a paint job in the early delivery C-5A scheme of gray and white- best looking by far. Current gray is a boring and Euro One cammo was ugly. I assume the C-141C is the Hanoi Taxi. Love the trash haulers!

Know what you mean. At least the C-141 is gray & white. I'd still rather see the C-5 land, get pickled, and brought inside asap just as she is, dings and all. I was told that today's gray was made so as to be environmentally friendly - as such, it weathers fast and becomes chalky sitting outside, it wouldn't look good if the C-5 gets stuck out for too long.

The new building is being built entirely with funds raised by the Air Force Museum Foundation. Sequestration should not have any effect on the construction of the new building. It looks like the C-17 will be left outside for now. I'm sure once the new building is up and is open to the public, the foundation will start fund raising for yet another building to house the C-17, the Swoose and all the experimental aircraft. I hope I live long enough top see that!

hopefully the usaf museum will cherry pick some of the aircraft slated for removal from the downsizing of the warner robbins museum in Georgia. how does 1 museum downsize while another grows?? it's like talking out of both sides of your mouth. I thought this sequestration / castration was across the board. I realize the usaf museum is oz for all of us, but come on!! the Georgia museum was certainly not a truckstop!!
