A loud and fast airplane flew over the runway; when I came out of my apartment, it was already turning behind the hangars for a second pass....

I barely had the time to make it to the edge of the runway, where coming from North to South, at a very high rate of speed and low, was one Supermarine Spitfire Mk. I-don't-know-which, with invasion stripes; the small canopy; in one second it was up and climbing on a left hand turn . . .

Hoping against hope, I went in to get my camera, but alas, it was not to be. I saw it flying low over the new airfield being built southeast from where I am, and then headed northeast, probably to Weiser Airpark.

I am guessing that it was Mr. Raybourn (sp?) Thompson's Spitfire, and I hope to be able to see it again, and next time to have my camera ready...

Saludos,

Tulio

Raybourne, with an 'e'. Your story jives with a discussion I had last
night with a friend...they said Mr T was out getting his monies worth
yesterday afternoon. It's no leap to believe he was out this morning. At
least the Spitty is with a proper caregiver...she spends a lot of time in the
air..as it should be. He is where you'll probably be in a few years with your
PT...walk away from the breakfast table into the hangar...and off ya' go!
If you have the time Tulio, you might pop down there this afternoon..mite
get lucky and catch him active..or get an idea when next?

Thank you for the correct spelling.

I went by Covey Trails, but did not see the Spitfire.

The PT is a loooooooong way down the pike; but I keep working on little things here and there; I am building a craddle for the last (3rd) engine, to make it easier to move around.

Saludos,

Tulio

Is this the same Spit that John Stewart painted last year? I think it is. Was he heading Weiser? Nice grass strip. If that's the case I glad the Spit is back in the area.
Tulio, I haven't forgot about you on the PT-19 info. It's just what is left of the family are pretty brain dead when it comes to records. I let you know the serial number as soon as I have it....Tom

Tom:

Thank you for remembering!

I have obtained the s/n through a nice guy in England, and then -in this case my memory fails me- I also obtained the airplane's service card and have a copy of it. It spent most of its service in Chickasaw, OK.

Saludos!
