Privateer N2871G is shedding her fire bomber colors in preparation for something a bit more historically significant. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Coast Guard? Navy? Or "We're not telling - it would spoil the surprise!"?

Question; is this aircraft fly able? If its painted appropriately, will there be any chance of a two ship formation flight with the Martin mars?

It is flyable and I don't know any details on the color scheme. In regards to a two ship with the Mars I imagine the logistics of that might be substantial since the Privateer is one side of the country while the Mars is headed to the other. I've been promised more pics as they become available and I will most certainly share with the WIX community. Stay tuned...

I vote for either a USCG scheme or that interesting flat blue over dappled light blue used at the end of the war and correct squadron markings.

Very cool! Can't wait to see her! Will she eventually get her turrets back as well?

Fantastic! I noticed that she had re-acquired a set of bomb bay doors awhile back. With the Lone Star Privateer being restored to WWII configuration, it would be cool to see this one pay tribute to her Coast Guard heritage. Whatever the plan, I'm really looking forward to the results.

Neat!

Though I do rather like the very 70s orange stripes.
It reminds me of the firebomber 4Y I climbed on (via the handy external ladder) back in the day...(at Boise?)
