Ohio ME-109?

Over the years I've heard rumors about a ME-109 kicking around the N.E. Ohio area. It was usually associated in some way with the Crawford Museum/Hale Farm. (Which did have a few more aircraft that were disposed of just before I moved to the area.) I never really thought much about it, but late last night I ran across this page:

Lorain is just west of Cleveland, so it could be the same plane. But what is that? It doesn't look much like the pics of the surviving Buchon's I've seen. Is that some Buchon survivor? Or is it a Replica? Either way...where is it today?

Any ideas?

vost ist los?? i live 10 minutes from the lorain county border. i'm a lifer here, never heard any scuttlebutt re: a 109 in this area!! couldn't access the link. somebody shed some light. i'm the guy with the ears to the ground in this part of the buckeye state re: warbirds!!! i'm waiting with anxious breath!!

Judging by the look of this 109, it may be the full-size replica that was built on Long Island a few years ago. It had an inverted Ranger engine. I don't know if it ever flew, but it was planned to try. This could be your 109.

That's funny. My sister was sitting on a flight from Islip NY to West Palm two weeks ago talking to a guy who said he had a 109 replica in a hanger in Brookhaven Long Island. He is a film producer. I threw his card in the trash yesterday. I'll see if I can find it.

I've had more than one person mention to me that they had seen a ME-109 behind a barn at Hale Farm. I always wrote it off, but the link has a pic of what is supposed to be ME-109 at a Lorain Airport. Dunno. Maybe Crawford had a replica -109 at one time and stored it at Hale? I do know they had a few WW1 replicas that were sold off in the early 1990s. (I saw them in the basement of Crawford once just before they left the Museum. I honestly can't remember the types and I didn't take any pics.)

The aircraft in this photo: http://www.davidpride.com/Aviation/Oth_LC_01.htm is definately an ex-Confederate/Commerative Air Force Hispano HA-1112 Buchon. I don't know its exact identity offhand. At the old CAF Airsho in the mid to late 1970's, (1975 or '76?), this aircraft was basically flown into the ground during a low level flyby. It was with the Motor City Squadron of the CAF as a static display during the 1980's and early '90s. The Detroit group of CAF members did their best to make this aircraft look like an actual German bf-109. The engine cowling was made from fiberglass as were the wingtips I believe. It is my understand that this plane was traded to someone in England and that it was being restored to fly once again.

I thought that the Thomas Scout was an origional that the Crawford Museum had. I always liked that plane. Back in th 70's when I worked there one summer while in college they always said that they had more planes in storage but I never found out where or what they had. I remember that they were interested in one of the Island Airlines Ford Trimotors but could not afford it.

Hopefully, they will be able to find the funding to restore the F2G................ or sell it to Bob Odegaard!

Well it definitely is not fitted with a RR Merlin engine, as per the Buchon.

Could it possibly be the Hispano HA-1112-M1L Buchon, that arrived at Duxford during August 1993 and stayed with OFMC until obtained by RAC at Breighton, currently awaiting certification for flight (G-BWUE) Picture below taken not long after arrival at Duxford..

I think we have a winner. I had heard about that plane from Jim Church, but didn't know it was mocked up that well. Any idea what it was doing in Ohio? Did the CAF wing travel that far with it?
