SAAF T-6 guestion

Hello all,
I'm interested if anyone has compiled a list of South African T-6 s and what their US serial numbers were before being flown by South Africa? Most of these aircraft have ship numbers on the side.

Hi,

T-6s with South-African serials from 7634 up to 7728 came from the US. All other (7001 - 7633 and 7729 - 7732) cam from other sources. Former identies of most former US Texans within 7634 - 7698 are known, however hardly any of the 7700 - 7728 series.

At least one SAAF T-6/Harvard was built up from new old stock spares that had never flown before and thus never had a US serial number.

Thats not true.... be careful about blanket statements like that. For instance the SAAF AT-6C at the Eagle Flying mUseum is 7246, built in Dallas July 1942 and delivered to the SAAF, stuck off charge in 1995 as one the last flying airplanes (participated in the big formation at the final ceremony).

As far as I know there is no single compilation of SAAF serials and that represents some time for research.... a particular SN can be found if some one wants to check though.

The T-6s the Spanish used were mostly ex-SAAF birds.
