Thx Paul, always nice to hear from you, and thx to all of you who enjoy these photo threads. I appreciate the kind words as much as I hope you all appreciate the threads. My part is easy as I'm just the poster of old photos. It's you guys who never cease to amaze me with your knowledge and research. Outstanding work by all of you. I only need to continue this for another ten years and maybe then I will have made up for my shaky WIX start  ... And don't worry, these old photos are many, but still 'finite' so I will eventually run out and spare you guys having to open 'another' photo thread lol ... Seriously I enjoy doing this, so again as long as you guys enjoy them too, lets keep having fun. pop2

WIX can be a pretty groovy place with a simple application of respect for others thoughts and opinions, restraint from critical judgement, application of common sense .... And by all means no drunk posting. Lol

Great pictures!
If your taking requests, I'd like to see:
Prewar bombers like the B-18, B-23, B-10, etc.
more P-35's, P-36's, etc.
more prototypes would be good too!

By all means, post more.
I don't see anything morbid about it at all. Most of these crashes necessarily involved high impact, in many cases it would be exceptional if no one was killed or injured. Men know the potential risks when they decide or are told to fly, and unfortunately, some indeed have paid the price. We are not crude gawkiness for examining photographic aviation history. My first thought indeed seeing wreck pics is indeed if it is likely the crew made it out Ok or not. Then I go on to looking for possible clues as to cause, and examining the surrounding area for damage relating to the accident.
That pic of the Navy aircraft which crashed into the house was pretty poignant. You can see where the wing slashed into the roof, and the bulk of the fuselage rammed right into the heart of the homestead.
Obviously, if anyone was home at the time, there is a high likelihood that they met a brutal and sudden death, but I think it would be a disservice to anyone who was injured or died in these incidents for people like us, interested in all facets of aviation good and bad, to bury all evidence that they ever happened out of some perceived thought that viewing the aftermath is disrespectful or morbid.
That said, if there were bodies strewn about or a smoking corpse in the cockpit, sure, discretion should be used. But even then, how many of us have seen pics and film of carpet bombing raids in Germany, seeing those 500 pounders going off from 30,000 ft, and thinking "Dang, they are getting plastered !" ,,, And never stopping to think that there are 100's and 1,000's of people down there getting blown up, asphyxiated and scorched to death ? What about the jaw dropping, iconic pic of the mushroom cloud over Hiroshima, lots of folks in a very bad way underneath that. True, individual wreck pics are much more up close and personal, but the concept remains the same.
So pictures like this should be viewed with perspective, contemplation and respect, but should not be censored and forgotten.

A few takeaways from those photos:

- The AJ crash aboard CV-43, and the explanation given via the link provided, is just astonishing... I wonder if the LSO or Air Boss was subsequently disciplined for not allowing the aircraft to head to the beach?

- That might be the best pics anywhere of an O-46... first time I've ever seen the cockpit or underside, thanks for that.

- I get the impression that the cockpit of an A-20 was not a very good place to be if things went south... seriously, how on Earth did those things come apart like that?! That's insane.

- Did anyone else notice the leather seat back cushions in the cockpit of the C-47 whose nose was all split apart? That was interesting... I wonder if the crew survived that or not? Could go either way based on what I'm seeing there.

- The F2H-3 angling down towards the crowded forward flight deck... God, that's a scary series, because you just KNOW it could only end one way- badly.

- Some of the noseovers are fairly amusing.

- How the heck did that Corsair shear it's gear sideways? I can't figure that one out.

Really good stuff, and much appreciated as always, Mark.

Lynn

Mark,

Great of you to post up the pics all the time. I can use those Duck mishap pics for the Duck Hunt.

One thought...I can't see alot of those pics in this thread. Most have a Photobucket icon (below) that says you need more bandwidth. It's the first time that has happened.

Thanks....John

Mark,

You are posting some great stuff, and there are a lot of us who are thrilled to see it. Can we take up a collection to assist you with obtaining more bandwidth?

Richard

Good morning and thank you kindly for the offer Richard, but good grief! No! ... All the photo threads should be fine now or at least will be fine by tomorrow. Not a matter of purchasing more bandwidth. A few software changes on my end has thrown up a few gliches. Not to be one to solicit funds towards anyone or anything (unless it's a real good cause) but this little site called WIX could always use some more financial help

Sorry for the inconvenience. And to make up for it, watch out for some really neat threads very soon as you thought you may have seen it all ... You haven't!

Revamping the whole computer system at the home front so bare with me for just a bit longer. The T.I. has had to delete and re-install a shoot-load of software and files. Sorry dudes! Photos will show up again soon. I've got the ultimate new 'man-cave' system about to fire up. Keeping my fingers crossed we don't burn the house down in the process. Stay tuned.
