... and yes there are a few photos posted which resulted in fatalities unfortunately. Sad indeed and I'll take any photo down that offends anyone, not the intent here.
I was
annoyed* at being misled by your intro characterizing the photos as being of incidents when clearly there was some loss of life in a few. But maybe I'm alone in not wanting to see such things on
this site.

doesn't seem to be a smiley for that

Well you won't need to be 'annoyed' for long as I'll take them down. Problem is could very well be all of them. Apologies for the misleading intro, thought I cleared it up a bit to not be so misleading. I'll try better next time. (No smiley face for that either unfortunately)
Edited: I've taken down all photos which clearly stated 'a loss of life' ... (Which was three photos of the same corsair) if any other photos are proven to have resulted in life being lost, please feel free to inform me ASAP and I'll also take those down as well. Not interested in offending anyone. Mods can also delete the whole thread if they feel it's offensive. Best I can do guys.

Accidents, including fatal ones come with the game in this business. I'm not offended or upset by your documentation of accidents or incidents from out of the past and I've always figured that it's like TV, don't like what's on? they all come with a channel changer and an ON/OFF switch and nobody is holding a gun on you to make you look at the photos. Does the evening news on TV use a biscuit recipe as it's opener? Nope! 'if it bleeds, it leads'. Leave 'em up!

That's right Inspector, accidents come with the territory. On AOPA and other aviation web forums there are no similar protests about aviation accidents. Some guys on here should put on some big boy pants. If you don't like the subject matter, then tune out.

You're both right, I should have avoided this thread and will do so since it has degenerated to insults.

Alright!!!! .... ENOUGH!!!! Wally I have no problems at all with you being a bit 'miffed' by a misleading topic and a few photos you didn't care for and I have taken them down now. (My advice is feel free to send me a PM anytime if you have a problem and the problem will be solved, PERIOD!!!) This is a place to share, learn and enjoy our passion, no more, no less. no one needs to leave and no one needs to be upset about anything. Much bigger issues in life to b*tch about than this place. Problem solved so lets ALL just get along and move on please.

I enjoy all of your posts. I have loved combat aviation all my life. I don't have a scanner or I might have posted some myself. One in mind is a B-24 that they hit the brakes too hard and it flipped up on it's nose, collapsing the nose all the way back to almost the top turret, and stayed there.. not for fun, i am sure there were deaths here too.

I wonder if any of the pictured aircraft (or incidents with aircraft) from lake Michigan where they have ended up in the water have been located or raised in recent years. As so many of them have been found (and some raised), it would be a great record of the condition, paint, equipment, etc. as they were in service especially for a restorer of said aircraft.

WallyB Photographs where a loss of life leads us in aviation to ask why and how this mishap occurred, and ask ourselves what we can do to make sure that it doesn't happen to us.
These photo are essentially tools which open to discussion Aviation Safety, of which there cannot be enough of as there is always an a gremlin that will sneak up on you, such as needing to increase power because one did not notice they were in icing conditions or spatial disorientation.
Many times we look at photographs of shot up B-17s, B-24s, Marauders and B-25s etc., and some generally don't think about the fact that in many circumstances that men lost their lives on the way back to base..or were blown out of the sky....should we pull down all of that history which has documented training mishaps and combat? I think not.
someone will always take the picture and it will go around the world in a New York Minute

Wally B, I am sorry that you feel insulted--I am sorry I insulted you. But please don't insult me and other members by stampeding an honest researcher into self censorship because you don't agree with his subject matter. Not everyone here on WIX has the same opinion or perspectives concerning aviation history and I think that most members of WIX are mature enough and learned enough to make their own judgements concerning such subject matter. Some view this material as relevant as the history that it is or as an aid in their own aviation safety. As long as there is an human element to aviation, aviation accidents will occur.
And what of these dead airmen? Do you really think we are honoring them or respecting them by deliberately ignoring their stories and sweeping their history under the rug? I can't think of a tribute any better than to learn the stories of these dead airmen. Their sacrifice should be recognized and their tragic stories should be remembered. They are just as dead as if they had been shot by an axis soldier. And if looking at photos of a fatal aviation accident caused the viewer to pause and consider the cost in potential for that individual and the country and encourages any empathy from the viewer then the photo served a good purpose. Viewing the loss of these individuals through the larger lense of the war in general puts their deaths in context and gives them a larger meaning.
History can be ugly and uncomfortable but let us not ignore it.
TonyM.
