Here's an interesting resource that's worth a look, James. May help you on your travels

Enjoy the Lanc today. When are you back this side of the pond?

I'd seen that planes on pedestals site before, but looking through it again really makes me think that its time to get more of these under cover.

Most now realize that WWII vintage aircraft are too valuable to have outside on pedestals, but that realization really doesn't seem to extend to more modern aircraft, or even to non-combat WWII aircraft. Its sad to see so mant Sabres and CF-100s "preserved" in this way. Those Harvards need to come indoors too. Gate Guards are a nice idea, and these displays can be important reminders of the past, but sticking real aircraft outside like this just isn't right.

Just my two cents worth on a Saturday morning.

Hi--

Agreed...old aircraft are not ideal for longterm outdoor exposure; and now that there are GRP replicas around, there isn't the need. A good example along these lines is the Lanc 10AR (FM212) at Windsor, which should, all going well, be moved to indoor storage and restored for indoor display in Windsor (probably at the airport) in the next year or two; the Lanc's place is slated to be taken by GRP Hurricane and Spitfire replicas in 417 (City of Windsor) Sqn markings, so that the airmen's memorial will continue to exist in Jackson Park. That's the way to do it...
