Yankee Air Museum scrappings

Thu Feb 21, 2013 4:22 pm

Not warbirds so most people likely won't care, but according to the current (Mar '13) issue of Flypast DC-6B N4913R and AW Argosy N896U are to be scrapped. Apparently the corrosion is beyond the museum's ability to fix.

The Argosy is the prototype (ex.G-AOZZ) and while the DC-6 had a relatively unremarkable career (Alitalia, SAM, Zantop) it seems a shame to lose either.
:(

It certainly is a shame. I've posted information on this last year, Belleville Willow Run is the title of one of the posts pertaining to these aircraft.

Can they save anything for display? Like, for example, cutting off the cockpit and displaying that.

why scarp them that makes no sense just keep slapping paint on them and let them rot in piece not like they are worth anything scrap wise I mean a 747 is only worth about 30K in scrap metal

According to what the volunteer said, the director decided that the planes are surplus to them and not really of any historical significance. I don't understand or agree but I am not in charge up there so my .02 aint worth crap!!!!!!

I wish they were ferriable because Id give them scrap value for them and stash them at my home airport till I could find a museum to give them to well one that wont cut them up

like i aways say.... if we had as much foresight as we do hindsight we'd all be better off. so much for aviation history in this case.

Yankee has made some... curious decisions regarding it's aircraft collection of late. That's all I'm really going to say about that. Really wish there was another solution besides scrapping these aircraft.
