Tour of Westpac

Last weekend I took the tour at National Museum of WWII Aviation at KCOS. Small now, but the finish project will be pretty impressive. One cool thing about the tour is they walk you through Westpac's facilities. F4U Korean War Hero was in for an annual, and there was an unmarked Tigercat getting some work done. The P-38 projects are coming along nicely. The whole facility is spotless and the prop shop is very impressive.

No picture taking allowed for obvious reasons. Tours are given on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Interesting stuff for sure. I see where further down on the page it states Westpac has a P-47 and a B-25. Which ones are they?

Not so obvious for me. Why the ban on pictures?

I think I may know the reason, but not sure: They want to control what images go into the various aviation publications? Or, that someone else makes a buck selling pics of their work?

I should note that the B25, P47 and Avenger are stored at the museum, not Westpac so you can take all the photos you wish. The also have an unrestored p47 razorback fuse that came out of New Guinea and a PT19 as well.

Westpac's restoration facilities are a separate entity and a private business. Although the tour of the museum takes you through the Westpac facilities, the docent asked for no pictures taken out of respect for the privacy of those who are having work done there and paying good money for it.

One thing is for sure, if you don't see it in person on the tour, you will see it flying someday and it will be spectacular.

WestPac opens up their private, multi-million dollar facility to tours to let us peek into their world class facility where they are performing painstakingly accurate restorations of incredibly rare, often combat veteran aircraft to add value to a museum. All for a very reasonable donation to the museum, and while increasing their liability, in some cases taking their employees time to speak about the aircraft, and all they ask is that you respect their agreements with their customers to not photograph the aircraft by asking you not to take pictures inside the private business. ....tough audience.

These guys have a state of the art restoration facility.
I've had the honor of working with AL, Lefty and Bill Dude while at Chino.
You cannot visit their facility and have an interest in restoration of these aircraft and not be impressed with what they do, regardless of whether you can take photos while in their shop.
Their appears to be no restriction in the display areas, just the restoration areas.
Come on folks, surprising to hear the attitudes here.

They are calling themselves a "National Museum", and presenting themselves as such. This should surely give them much more of an obligation to visitors than a what you are calling a "private operation opening up for tours."
