Vlado hinted to it earlier in another thread, and now confirmed by the Wings over the Rockies Facebook Page:

I must have missed something along way, just where is this Corsair going? To Vlado?

Well crud....our only Colorado based Corsair heads out of state. Supposedly to someone in Florida who has'nt revealed himself yet (or themselves)......while I will miss the old gal....if whoever picked it up restores it and even better FLIES it....I shall rejoice. I have been told it will be a first class restoration where 'maybe even the guns will work', but no names or restoration shops were mentioned. Makes me wish I had stayed in contact with the bird's old owner James Axtell, but I only ever talked to him once.....

Can't wait to hear more on this...

Mark

This is great news. Hopefully she will fly again. My grandfather flew this particular aircraft when it was stationed up at NAS Sand Point in Seattle, WA. :supz:

The Warbird Heritage Foundation has acquired the FG-1D Corsair BU# 92050 known as Race 94 and it will be restored to airworthy as a stock FG-1D. It's headed to Tab-Air of East Troy Wi and will be a 3-5 year project for us. We look forward to returning the aircraft to airworthy status.

Wonderful acquisition. So it will be restored to stock configuration rather than a racer? I think that race 94 scheme would look gorgeous in polished metal. Either way glad to see another Corsair returning to flight. :drink3:

They posted on Facebook that they will document it's history but it is going back to stock status.

Outstanding news, David! Another great addition to WHF's growing stable of exceptional flying warbirds.

If I may respectfully submit an idea for the paint scheme; I think painting 92050 as she would have looked back when she was based at NAS SandPoint in Seattle, WA would be great!

Personally I think that the Corsair should stay in it's Race Color's... How many other F4U's do we have like this one? 1 maybe? Now, how many do we have in stock, WW2 Navy blue? All of them?

This Corsair has racing history, yes? If so, why change it?

I'm going to run now...

Just fix what is there and go racing! Or you could paint it in Pappy Boyington's markings... :axe:

This A/C was discussed here a couple years back or so.
IIRC it never got to race in its present setup so I don't know if there is any real history other than how it was modified and looks at the moment.
