Interesting photo of the SB2C with a BAT ASM-N-2, mostly used as a test vehicle to test compatibility with/for catapult and carrier recovery. The -N-2 did it's own tracking and correcting and was, actually the first smart bomb. A BREWSTER SBN was also used for flight testing.
There are several hanging in various military museums around the country from China Lake to points East.
The SMELLDRIVER shown looks to have had the belly painted after leaving Noo Yawk since you can see the masking effect of the MLG strut doors.

What's the story with your dad bellying in the Corsair?

I believe he told me it was some sort of engine failure.

I'll certainly keep an eye out. Any additional information to share about this particular Corsair? Also don't we need to still get you going as to how to post photos on WIX? Contact me anytime and I'll be happy to walk you through it. It's not difficult at all.

Mark

Great pictures!! Have you ever come across many pictures from VMF-225? I have a few but I'm always interested in finding more. My grandfather flew in that squadron from may 1943 till late 44.

Thanks
Steak
