This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Just seen on local chicago 5 news what looks to be a p-51 flipped over in a field. caught the end of news flash and the pilot is O.K. Don't know what aircraft it is, the nbc webpage isn't updated yet, just a aerial view of the plane and it is in one piece. thats all I seen and know no more ,yet

Doesn't look like a real Mustang to me.

Yeah, looks way too small. Proportions are off.

MLG is set back from leading edge further than the NAAA product.

Gotta be a homebuilt. Proportions look wrong and I don't know of any real P-51s painted that way. Glad to hear the pilot was ok.

Can we have the title amended to ''non fatal' or 'pilot believed OK' please?

Thanks for the updating the title pjpahs!
Looks a bit of a mess, trust it's not too bad for the pilot.

How about changing the thread title to Not-a-P-51?

Agreed - 9 times out of 10 you're going to dig in a gear and end up just like this guy did.

I think the title should be changed to "Homebuilt look-alike P-51 accident, not the warbird we all love". When I first saw the title I assumed the worst and thought a real P-51 had crashed. Since I know some people that own a couple and have seen a Mustang or two in my life, I assumed it would be bad news when I looked at the thread. People should be more careful about what they use as thread titles. Regardless of the condition of the pilot and/or passengers, it could have been a real mustang that crashed. Think of the horror and trauma a true mustang fan would suffer if they had to sit and worry that it was an ACTUAL Mustang, during the two seconds it takes for the page to load. Only then would they find out it was just a fake Mustang and they could breath a sigh of relief.
