A WIX member used the term 'mainstream' to discribe aircraft types that don't get as much airplay as the usual popular types. I like that definition. Sounds about right to me as well. Many served a great purpose and had a long service life, some not so much, but all were/are unique and special in their own way. Many of these types still survive today and it's always nice to see some of these guys around flying still. So here are just a few of the thousands of great creations that could always use some more attention IMHO. Source, San Diego Air and Space Museum Archives.

I don't believe it ever received a name.

That's an odd one - never saw a T-6 broken up like that before.

They will bust a wing off given the chance.
One reason the Navy made a modification on how the front pilots seat rails were attached. Stock the bottom of the seat rails attach to the wing upper skin via brackets. The tube sits in a hole.
When the wing bust loose or leaves as in this photo's situation the seat is only held at the top and allows movement and increases injury to the occupant.
Navy developed brackets that attach to the steel tubes of the fuselage structure and secure the lower seat rails. Thus the seat goes where the fuselage goes.
I have some rusted ones and plan to remake them for 22 and the others here.

YES! AWESOME PHOTO! :supz: Loving the whitewalls.
I've always been intrigued by those late/post war torpedo and dive bomber projects. I really need to learn more about them. They always just seemed so friggin' cool.

I'd guess both were landing and the top one won.
I wonder if the pilot on the bottom would've made it.
Its a wonder any of them made it through training let alone combat.

Got any of Fairchild 24s? Either the UC-61 or the Argus?

Great file of photos!
