Color question regarding Korean War F-80 aircraft: were the nose and tip tank antiglare panels black or olive drab?
Thx in advance,
VL

Vlado, I believe most Korean War P-80s carried the drops below the wingtip and were punched off pretty regularly. T-33's tip tanks were usually black.

The factory stock tip tanks were only 165 U.S.G. and couldn't provide enough range for early operating conditions to Korea from Misawa Japan so local (in Japan) outfits developed the 265 U.S.G. 'Misawa' tip tanks which were between the stock tank and the TBird tanks in length.
And like Rick says they were under the tip and pretty much out of direct line of sight from the cockpit so reflections weren't as much of an issue as the mid point mounted TBIRD tanks were.

That's right. Good reminder. The under tip tanks would not have had the anti glare paint.

For the fuselage nose, would the Korean F-80s had black or olivevdrab paint? Or none, for that matter.
Thx again,
VL

Wasn't that the fairing for the gunsight computer antenna? so it would probably be flat black painted fiberglass. The gunsight antenna fairing on the F-86 was a smallish fiberglass beak on top of the intake lip usually black or tanish.

I have seen them painted both colors.

Shouldn't the question be, "What color is the interior of the main gear doors"?
