There's an F-14 tucked away down here at Goodfellow AFB in the DoD Fire School area. Flown in to Mathis Field, it was moved by road to GAFB. Why? Your guess is as good (or mo' betta) than mine!

Well at least they saved a few. I don't like seeing aircraft scrapped but if they are of little or no use to the military why spend the dollars keeping them around? Even if they were sold to the public who could afford to keep it flyable? However, would make a nice lawn ornament.
