jack, point made. Now you're quickly becoming the troll. Please rise above and enjoy the progress with BuNo.124715 before you kill it for everyone.

Respectful thanks,

Rob

FAH 609 Buno 124715 Folks:

The mod id plate found on the folding section of the R/W of FAH 609, Buno 124715 c. Oct 2009. S/N A4-670 is shown, indicating a poss one time replacement of that wing section.

We are curious to find out what the L/W area shows, wings flaps & the ones on the edges of the H/stab.

Buno 124715 was involved in at least in 2 minor accidents during its Navy operational life. One, a poss structure failure c. 1952 while in Korea c. Sept, 1952 & two, a T/O accident at Moffett Field c. Sept 1953.

F4U-5N Buno 124715 FAH 609 Folks:

The USN accident report for Buno 124715 (1 0f 2) came in thanks to Craig of AAIR.

Evidently, the pilot ENS Smale, Milton L, USNR had a little trouble with the prop torque swerving the aircraft to the Left on take-off on Rwy 32 at Moffett Field on 4 Sep '53. The report also states that he hit 4 runway lights and nicked the prop blades a bit.

The pilot was able to take-off after he felt a small bump and noted prop vibrations soon after take off, causing him to RTB and land immediately w/o further problems.

Another pilot, his wingman ENS W.K Kershner also saw Buno 124715 swerving to the Left a bit, correcting but not enough to avoid hitting the rwy lights. (4).

At the time of the accident ENS Smale, Milton L, had 168 HRs of flying time of which 80 Hrs were on F4U-5 aircraft. According to the NAVY investigation board the cause of the accident was pilot error.

We'll try to get a better resolution picture than the one on the report which shows a bit of the blade damage & the "NP" number "30" on the L/speed brake fairing at the Moffett Field, maintenance facilty. Photo via SID. Tks

p.s As an ironic note, Buno 124715/FAH 609 had a small prop nick incident at Rwy 01 at Toncontin airport while landing & returning at night from its 1st combat mission across the border from El Salvador on July 14, 1969. FAH 609 was repaired & ready for action the next morning!
