In reading about the 2012 Reno Air Races I'm seeing references to the 2013 Reno Air Races being the 50th Anniversary. How do they figure that when the first races were in 1964?
Could even be the 47th Annual races if you take 2001 and 2011 out of the equation.

By my math, if 1964 was #1, 2013 will be #50.
Unless you count in a diferent way to the rest of us, Chappie?

It's the 50th ANNUAL....not the 50th Anniversary. To have an anniversary, you have to have had it and waited a year.

Ah yes. When you put it that way......ok.

Yes this type of thing drives me nuts. Hence, the fiftieth annual is the year before the fiftieth anniversary. There's no win either way!

Yes, it seems like a no win situation. But it is true that 2014 is actually the 50th Anniversary (1964-2014) of the Reno Air Races, just like 1997 was the 50th Anniversary of the USAF (1947-1997) and 2011 was the Centennial/100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation (1911-2011).
