Hey guys, We have a static Phantom on display that needs a new nosewheel tire. Any help on the jackpoint location would be appreciated.
Chris the ignorant :)
Sorry Mudge.

Look on the nose gear between the nose wheels. You'll see some safety wire wrapped around the gear. Cut it. An arm should swing up, insert bottle jack and pump. You'll need a pretty hefty jack, but the plane should rotate up on the mains, be sure they are chocked.

Thanks Rick. I kinda figured you'd have the scoop on that.

Your welcome. Should be pretty strait forward. It's been a while since we changed a nose, I believe the nose wheel arm is springloaded to the up position, the safety wire, is, well, a safety, in case the spring fails.

If you ever change a main, there's a similar process. You should never have to jack the whole plane to change a tire. It gets waaayyyyy up there as the gear extends ! pop2

Drop into a gen av hanger and see how high you need to jack a CESSNA PUSHMEPULLYOU to get weight on jacks, then stick around and see how high they go to do a gear swing

already done that. same on a Lancair. You dont have to bend down very far to watch the retraction cycle, thats for sure.
