The Kansas City skyline is getting a new addition.

The Roasterie off Southwest Boulevard now has a full-size DC-3 airplane on top of the coffee production facility. The plane was built in 1943 and was part of the Berlin airlift.

It's about time! They were to have done this about two months ago. Kansas City is very much an historic hub of aviation history...TWA, Howard Hughes, North American, Don Luscomb started buliding his line of small aircraft here, just a few to mention of the many things aviation that occured there....only one museum in town dedicated to aviation there now...The Gooney Bird is very fitting, not too far from where a great many used to roost when they were working birds.

I think they purchased it from Dodson Aviation in Rantoul Ks. Might search that way.

If I remember correctly, a few months back the Kansas City Star had an article that stated the owner of the coffee company bought the aircraft from someplace in the South East US...either Fla. or LA. They flew it in to Ottawa, as Dodson Aviation has a working knowledge of the Goonies, as they do a turbo conversion on the airframe. The DC-3 was dissassembled there in Kansas, good engines and props replaced with static ones, and readied for the move to KC Mo...I believe the aircraft was used as a sprayer before....

If they will put up a fixture like that on Union Station, near-by, I'll mount a Harpoon there.

I'll second that.
