Looks like Howard Pardue's airplanes are up for sale. I wonder what will happen to the Breckenridge Aviation Museum now? He always had a lot of interesting stuff on display, even if the airplanes were a little sparse in later years.

With Ezell doing the maintenance on the aircraft, I expect they're in very good condition.
The Ezells are great people, honest, knowlegable....if I ever have the money, I'd call up Nelson and say..."Find me a good Mustang/Corsair". I'd trust him 100%.

BTW: I would have thought there would have been more aircraft in the estate.
Did Mr. Pardue leave other AC to others (people/museums, etc) in his will or has the family kept or sold others?

All he had other than the ones listed for sale are the Duke and the L-4. I would think the family is keeping them but I don't know that for sure. Everything else he owned was long gone before the Bearcat accident.

At one time, he had three flying Corsairs (1 FG-1D and 2 F4U-4, if I recall correctly), plus the Wildcat and Bearcat. He crashed one of the Corsairs and eventually sold the others. I don't recall when he bought the Sea Fury. He also used to have a disassembled F9F jet sitting out behind one of his hangars. I probably have some snapshots of it somewhere in my archives. I don't recall if it was a Panther or a Cougar. I wonder what ever happened to it?

This sale breaks the heart. I was standing in Howard's Hangar this time last year admiring all three of these beauties. I hope they find a good home.

During a tour of ther Ezell and Pardue hangars back in 2004, I saw a Corsair center section (in one piece) waiting to be rebuilt (I believe Ezell owned it), no sign of any jets.

Good God 51fixer. Can I ask anything on this board and get a straight answer? I simply asked if anybody knew the asking price. Notice I didn't ask about the Staggerwing price? I've already owned one of those and might like to look into a fighter in the semi near future. I know all about the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" mantra in the aviation, collector car and real estate world and its not always true. Being able to afford something and wanting to pay what they are asking is two totally different things. I am not new to aviation or warbirds. I know more than one person that owns a warbird and can't afford to. I'm sure you do as well.

I did contact them last night right after I saw this thread. I haven't heard back yet. Pardon me all to hell for trying to speed up the process.

If you want to know how much somebody is selling something for and want a straight answer, I should think you'd ask them, rather than asking a largely anonymous forum for gossip, quesses, rumors and wishes. It sounds a little bit like you're trying to impress the board ("Nobody asked, but I've owned a Staggerwing...") with your assumed capability to bid on a warbird.

And having been a member of the board for one day--busy boy, 17 posts--I'm not sure how you can make such broad generalizations as saying you "can't get a straight answer."

If you go back and look at the thread about the Mosquito you will find that I had considerable difficulty getting a straight answer to a question I asked this morning. I came to this thread and asked a simple question and was hoping to get a simple answer. Instead I got the tired old chestnut about "if you have to ask.." Being the second occurence in a very short space of time this morning I made a statement about not being able to get a straight answer. That is how I justified such a broad generalization.

My reason for mentioning the Staggerwing was to make the point that I've been told before that if you have to ask you can't afford it and also found out that it isn't always true. It was also to point out that I have already owned a Staggerwing, wasn't interested in knowing the price of the one for sale and was planning on possibly moving up to a fighter. As of right now it is nothing more than "possible" but haven't made a decision yet. I didn't mention it because it wasn't related to the conversation, but I've also owned a couple other nice airplanes. None of those were for sale in the Pardue listing so I didn't need to mention that I had once owned a fairly nice Tiger Moth. The Staggerwing was listed so I mentioned it. If you look just a little down from that post you will find that I did go to the responsible party to ask about the price. I hadn't heard back from them when I made my original post and I was hoping to get a faster answer. To go further, as was pointed out by 51Fixer, lots of different people post here. Warbird pilots, mechanics, restorers, owners and such. I was going on the off chance that one of them might have the answer to my question.

I had most of the day off so I went through a few dozen pages of WIX. I commented on some threads. Sorry if you were offended by me not getting here earlier in the year so I could space my questions and posts out in a manner more pleasing to you but I just found out about this board from a magazine a few days ago. I asked a few questions about Canadian markings on an F-86 for a possible model project (the only thread that I actually got any help, thanks to those people), I got involved in a couple of conversations. The post count starts to run up and before you know it I was up to double digit posts. I'll ask my Rabbi to be sure but I didn't know I was doing wrong. I didn't know there was a time frame/post count/involvement quota on this board. I swear I didn't see it in the forum rules.

I'm not worried about impressing anybody here and I don't think anybody here is too worried about what I have to say about possibly buying an airplane. Least of all you, obviously. But I still fail to see why you care about it enough to make a post. But while you're here, being critical of the things I post and the frequency, it's not an assumed capability to bid on a warbird. I've been fortunate to have the ability to buy a few nice things from time to time. While I can't swing a five million dollar P-38, I can scrape a few shekels together to possibly get one of the fighters a little lower on the financial scale. But look at it this way. If any part of this boards goals might be to get the involvement of people that might own, fly or work on warbirds then you are certainly not helping those goals.

This place has a heck of a welcome wagon.
