About 5-10 minutes prior to the storm.

Randy's right...it wasn't much of a storm by any measure. No hail. Not even green sky.

I'm surprised no one has posted a pic of the A-4 that got spun around. I didn't know my autofocus had gone belly up, so sorry for the blur. The right main has sunk in the soft ground, but nothing bent that I know of. Came pretty close to clipping the FJ though.

Now somebody please post a clearer pic.

The Thunder Mustang N241DT won an award and had the Fokker tossed on it by the storm..........

Condolences to the owner......

Hopefully that L-17 got tied down.

It was very ominous and ugly looking for a few minutes, though.

That single WWI replica is the only aircraft damage I heard of.

Don't forget the row of Sani-Huts that were blown over like dominoes! Hope nobody was in there....

I think this was a microburst which hit the homebuilt campground and the Forums and Workshop area hardest.

There were probably a half dozen aircraft in homebuilt camping with minor damage. The Fokker replica and the Thunder Mustang, an RV-12 that tipped back on its tail, a couple of Kitfoxes that bumped into each other, some dinged control surfaces due to a lack of adequate control locks, and probably a few more bumps and scrapes I didn't see first hand.

Probably 1/2 the tents in the homebuilt camping area were damaged or destroyed (including mine, which was damaged, but useable). My neighbor's tent was trashed and all of their stuff was soaked. Many others were in the same boat. At least 3 rows of porta potties in different locations around the campground were turned over, and those of us in Kent White's metal working demonstration in a tent near the Forums area got a big scare - the tent appeared very close to coming down with about 40 people inside.

From where I was in the Forum area, it appeared to be a microburst, with westerly winds at the start, changing direction over the next 2-3-4 minutes. I have no idea what the wind velocity was, but I was very concerned about having an upright, flyable aircraft when I returned to my campsite.

I heard the tower clocked gusts up to 70 mph. I was in the Federal Pavilion, and my dad and I both commented that it was probably the hardest rain we had ever seen, you couldn't see 12 feet ahead of you. Luckily, our campsite got by unscathed, but the dumpsters in Scholer were filled with ruined tents.

We were sheltering in one of the Innovations hangars with the west-facing door open and for a while it was just hard rain with the wind only blowing it 10 feet inside. Then the microburst hit and suddenly the water was blowing horizontally 100 feet into the hangar. They were having a presentation in there and chairs, speakers, mikes etc. went flying. By the time they could get the door closed it was about over. But it sure laid down a lot of water in a short time. Parts of the roads between the hangars were flooded over ankle depth, although it had drained away within an hour.

Our RV-8 was around 4-5 parking spaces north of the Thunder Mustang in the front row (#318) across from the Forum Pavilions. When I checked her the next day, the tailwheel was about 8-10" south of where I'd left it and one of the wing ropes had gone slack. I repositioned the tail and re-tightened the ropes. The Fokker had already been cleaned up and I'm just now seeing the pix on WIX. Better to be lucky than good ...

A classic amateur video where the videographer continues to scan for "what else might be happening" rather than focus on "what is happening" - the Cub...
