My boss has found this engine in a garage, It's around 300hp. Is it worth saving and does anyone need it for their aircraft? It's complete but we don't know what it might have gone on. Thanks

A very desirable engine that became the R-975. Any manufacture date? J-6 models were originally built in 1928 and powered lots of civilian aircraft like Beech, Cessna and Bellanca. It was used on some military types like the Curtiss CW-22 and F9C Sparrowhawk. I don't think it will be laying around for very long.

Also used in some light armored vehicles and Doug Corrigan sat behind one as he flew the Atlantic.

Dougs turned the wrong way though. I heard his plane and flight jacket is still around and the FAA said no to him repeating the adventure years ago.

Moons ago he was a celebrity guest @ the MoF, he was an absolute riot snapping out one liners and funny snippets, he wore that leather jacket held together with Scotch Tape, enjoyed meeting him and General Robert Scott.

I think one of the highest volume users for the J6-9/R-975 was the BT-15. If it is placarded as 300hp that means it is a pretty old variant and, I'm afraid probably not worth much. If is is 440hp then it is a later version and worth some pretty good cash if it is a good core.
