Rights?????

Wed Jul 25, 2012 2:44 am

I have a few questions about recovery of an ex military aircraft. Im from south Texas and i know where an old P-39 Airacobra is half buried. After all this time is the AirForce still the rightful owners?

Depends on whose land it is sitting on. If it is on Gov property the Gov probably retains rights to it. If on private property then you will have to do some more research as to whether someone claims it as property.
Good Luck

Please get us some pictures of before and after. Get the BEFORE pictures immediately. Before anyone smells blood on the water AKA "money".

AND TURN OFF the GPS function on your phone or camera as someone can use the location info in the pictures to go right to the item.

I'll be in South Texas again this weekend, so if you need anyone to make announcements to the press or make deals with county officials, on your behalf but in my best interest, let me know.

If it's truly in South Texas, I can only think of one area it might be in, although I wouldn't expect that type of aircraft. Anyway, good luck, especially with 1) your friends at the courthouse and 2)the corrosion issue. 1) If there's $5 to be had with that bunch, they'll spend $100k in tax dollars to make sure that $5 ends up in their personal pocket, and 2)I know lawn mowers and pickups don't last 5 years in that environment, much less 70 years.

How about some aerial recon prior to the "escorted" visit? I'll drive! Should I pick you up at PIL or T05?

I just talked to a county deputy that drove by iy last month. He said the majority is still there but some stuff is still under the surface.

I just remembered , wasnt there a thread on here about 6 months ago with a picture of a half buried p-39? it was in the area being discussed. I could not make out a plane in the picture. is this the same plane we are talking about? there were a few trucks in the backround of the black and white photo? anyone remember that thread?

Are you thinking of the one in Toncontin, Honduras? I never could make out much from those pics either.
