This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

It may well be Denton 1984, which was organized and run by the CAF's Dallas/Ft. Worth Wing. I had joined the CAF and that Wing in May of that year and that looks like my yellow and white Pitts S-2A in the sixth photo down. I recongnize a number of the other planes and believe they were at Denton that year. I think I have several hours of VHS footage of that show. Unfortunately, it is on the list to be digitized and not yet done. If you have any photos of the terminal building or hangars, that might help.

Yep, the background looks like Denton. Man, they just don't put on warbird shows like that any more, do they?

Sure they do...it's just that today it's all CJ-6's and Navions.

Put invasion stripes on them and you got perfection.

I can't help with the location I'm afraid but I would like to express my gratitude for your willingness to share the pictures. For my money I just can't get enough photos from what I consider to be the "heyday" of warbird airshows.

Zane,
Those look to match my Denton pictures from that time frame.
Some of the airplanes and ramp layout appear to be Denton.
These were my first couple of CAF shows. Good memories and I was pretty young!

Thanks guys! Denton, TX it is then!
I don't have any other pics of the ramp, the old terminal or anything with this set. I remember that show being very hot but the warbird action was such that we didn't care!
Those were the days...indeed.

Sure looks like Denton.
Man, they had some killer air shows there back in the 80s. I remember running out in my front yard and seeing what seemed like the entire CAF fleet passing over Dallas on the way there. Fifi in the middle and what seemed like a bunch of fleas around it.
Thanks for posting!

Supposed to have gone to one of those Denton shows and visit some family friends, but unfortunately I never did.
Those were some fun times back in the CAF during the 80's (excluding the various accidents, of course) - Seems like there were airshows everywhere in Texas at the time (College Station, Waco, Denton, Galveston, Breckenridge, etc.). Just wish I had gone to more of them when I had the opportunity.

Same in California, the 1980's seemed to be that magic time when money and airplane availability made the perfect combo for a lot of operations and a lot of resto's, of various degrees.
Being 30 years ago, the airplanes were still, in many cases, just old airplanes. Many parts stashes were plentiful and cheap, people's money spent much farther.
Neat times.
