A Forum for those interest in vintage NON-military aircraft

Hello,
I'm looking for Warner Scarab 165 D parts to support my CAC Wackett Trainer restoration.
in particular the following items:
Cylinders
Standard Rocker covers
Sump rocker covers
Oil Pump
Gear Case (Accessory housing)
Baffles
Scintilla Type VMN7D Magneto
Stromberg NAR-5A carburetor
As I have access to a static sectionalised display engine, that I can swap some parts from, I am searching for both airworthy or even damaged/non-airworthy examples of the parts above, including engines that have suffered big end failures etc
Replies directly to
mark_pilkington@hotmail.com if that is easier.

Mark, why don't you contact Steven Curry at Radial Engines Limited in Guthrie,Oklahoma? They specialize in "the small radials".

He does not specialize in Warners...as a matter of fact they refuse to touch one anymore.

Ah-so. I didn't know that. Why not? Maybe he could network to someone who does work on them though.

There are a couple of entries on barnstormers.com for Warner related goodies right now

How about Holloway Engineering in Quincy, CA? They are radial engine rebuilders.

Most of the Warner parts are for a 145 Warner on Barnstormers...different engine altogether than a 165. Al Holloway rebuilds Warners. In fact, he is about the only person in the U.S. actively doing so. I have two in my hangar that need attention and called all my old Warner contacts including two former rebuilders and all declined. Good luck!

Andy, are the Warner builders getting out due to lack of parts or what? Is there not enough biz to keep many builders going?

Some parts are in shortage...crankshafts and valves. Too much down time looking for parts to make any money at it. That is why you buy several like we have and hope the parts in your good engine that break are good parts in your spare!

One to fly and four for Steve to make furniture out of.

(BTW apparantly there were some concerns my reference to accessing sectionalised static display engine for parts related to an asset in a community museum that I am associated with, which is incorrect. The engine I am referring to is privately owned and within my own collection, unfortunately its extensive sectionalising destroys a number of the parts listed above on my wants list but allows swap out of other poorer condition and damaged parts with those items on it that are complete.)

For smaller parts, rings and seals and gaskets and so on, the source is Harman Dickerson, in Missouri. I've bought things from him, and he's been great.
As for larger parts, yeah it's difficult.
