This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Jack,
From what I understand they plan is to have it taxiable, under her own power, by December of this year. I have this directly from the Museum. We (the CASC) support their plan as long is it is done safely, when proper maintenance is completed first.

CB13/FAH 609 Folks:
We'll be looking for WW II markings as well. VC-3, VC-4 Sqs, Bunos, Cockpit names, Sqs numbers. They are prob still in place under many layers of paint.

Zorro,
As per my recommendations to the Col., stripping that aircraft would be a crime. The best possible situation would see the fabric restored and only essential touch up work performed. They should take every precaution and preserver the original historical fabric (meaning paint coatings etc). You only have an original aircraft one time. The Smithsonian does it all the time.

Good day!!
I agree! That would be a more fisible restoration approach in 2012!!
Buno 124715 has a lot of history under the skin. All that I can tell you for now is that FAH 609 is under much better care!

1. the restoration will be just to put the plane in the conditions it was left 31 years ago when the FAH decided putting it out of flying conditions. no other search will be done because is not a matter of vital importance for the museum.
2. the 609 is still under the care of the board members of the FMAH.

I'm asking this question because I'm genuinely interested in the answer. Zorro7, who is this "WE" you speak of? Are you affiliated with the museum? Are you physically involved with the airplane or museum? Or, are you just really enthused about the project?

They have the engine covers off and I can see alot of bare aluminum where the Zinc Chromate has flaked off around the cowl flap ring. Good thing some preservation work has began.
Check out the Facebook page for the restoration

Work is banging along down in Honduras. Col San Martin and his guys are in the process of pulling the prop, going through the carb. Should be interesting to see if they get her running. My only fear is all the numerous lines. The Corsair is a maze of hydraulic and fuel lines. I give them kudos for a good effort.

Necessary precautions are being taken during the delicate process. This is how '609' looked yesterday (Aug. 2).

FAH 609 folks/F4U Pilots:
When all is said & done FAH 609 will crank-up engines again one more time at Toncontin airport c. Dec 2012 or earlier & will go for a memorable taxi run.
We do not know if it's going to be a slow taxi- run or a fast one!! But something comes to my mind on that particular day:
...it 's possible for an F4U-5N to become slightly airborne during a high speed taxi run??
