The ones in the F-86H panels are anodized black or painted aluminum and the ones in the F-86L panel are black plastic. Is there a tool for these little jewels? The seals are an item I need to source.

Black plastic is what I am accustomed to with a blue or white (on older ones) light shaft. Usually hold a 327 bulb. I've never been aware of a removal tool. I have broken the heads off of a few in my day. Makes getting the remainder out of the socket a joy. The rubber seal comes with the new light if you order the correct part number (I'm talking AF supply of course). I've never ordered the seal on it's own (not sure you can). Take a trip to Tucson and raid an old Herc. There are thousands of those lights just sitting out there...

While waiting for completion of the UHF contol panel. Here is some work on filling in an F-86E/F instrument panel.

The TACAN will fit in the cockpit on the right side of the cockpit.

Here the panel is installed.

As said on the box, autopilot system :)

Right autopilot system as marked. There are a number of autopilot systems in the 1950-1960s and I do not have information on them. If the autopilot system was installed on the F-86D/K/L let me know? Any photos on the installation? Please post.

Thanks,

A few more photos of panel work, UHF transceiver, and compass.

This is another F-86L right hand panel in cleanup. A before photo showing general condition.

An installed compass in the F-86H to see how it fits and what still needs to be done.

Image

Just enough room to fit the RT-178/ARC-27 UHF transceiver in the rack aft of the cockpit.

Image

In the nose forward of the cockpit is the target radar system. This is the PP-498/APG-30.

Image

A few more photos of equipment in the nose compartment.

A Sight Computer center black box and a Radar Range Servo on the left side of the photo.
Image

A CN112/APG30 Voltage Regulator on the right side of the photo.

Your making great progress! Shame the canopy windshield side glass was shattered.

Peter,

Yes, the windows are on the rough side from years of outside storage and mishandling. Some replacements are needed, a future effort on the project. For now this F-86H cockpit is in a safer place.

This is a radio compass panel after cleanup. Some Sabres used an indicator similar to the one in this panel.

In the cockpit the instrument panel is missing, but frame is intact as well as the A4 Sight Installation.

Image

Sun bleached the Fuel Quantity gage is in lower center of the instrument panel.
