I was in the back yard with my pups this evening and watched a SOCOM Chinook go right over the house at about 700 AGL. Ridden in plenty back in the day (and have two fewer takeoffs than landings).
You see them around the place from time to time. A while back, I took this shot from my front porch:

Well... I went out to my Sis' place today for my niece's birthday and heard a very distinctive sound from the sky which I had never heard before.

Wow... lookee what I caught, waaaay off in the distance. I'd heard that this 'ole gal was coming to our side of the pond, but never did I dream that I'd see it from my Sister's backyard! lol

used to be Hess Bomberger's "Vergeltungswaffe." Man, I tried to replicate the lettering and the diamond pattern on the nose on my 1:48 model. Always liked the look of it.

I can definitely relate to this.
Somewhere in the early summer of 1998 I had a job situated just about 3/4 of a mile of the end of the runway of Soesterberg Airbase in the Netherlands. (This airbase was where the USAF 32 TF Squadron flying F-15 Eagles was situated in the Netherlands till 1992.)

It was a bright sunny morning and as I was having my coffee break I heard this extremely weird engine sound that I had never heard before coming from the end of the runway and getting louder by the second.
I ran outside and there she was flying only at 400 or 500 feet, coming straight at us and doing a very slow turn to her left: A Junkers 52 !!!
She passed right over our heads and kept on flying to the South-West at that same very low level. I kept on watching her for about a minute till she disappeared behind a row of houses at the end of the street.

As at that time I was working at recreational facility for the elderly I was watching that whole incredible scene with a lady of some 80 + years who had lived near the airbase all of her live. Even though she had not seen one since the end of the war she figured out what kind of plane that was right away.
We both agreed that this was the most amazing warbird sighting we had ever had.
Till this day I have never had a more surprising warbird sighting and I doubt I will ever have one that tops this.

Eric

I saw a CL-215 water bomber fly over Clinton, MI. Have no idea what it was doing, but it was fast and low. There's no fires around here, so I don't think it was working. If anyone knows what it was doing, please post a reply. Thanks

About 18:00, a pair of AT-6/SNJ types flew over the house, eastbound at about 2,000 feet, in a nice tight formation. They looked like they were fastened together! Nothing like the sweet music of a pair o' Pratts to liven up a quiet summer afternoon! :D

1640 on a Sunday, must have been Greg Anders heading North to KBLI in Val-Halla, straight over the house fairly low and pushin' the postage.

At 8:30 local 1230z had a CH-46 Seaknight and SH-60 type helicopters overhead tracking northwest bound. I'm thinking support for the presidential visit to northern Ohio today.

6 US Navy Blue Angels ... flying over the house ... practicing routines for the upcoming Dayton Air Show on Saturday and Sunday ... They will be out again tomorrow ...

If your heading out .... PLEASE be careful ... bring water ... forecast is to hit 100 degrees.

Also saw a B-25 in the not to far distance ... it appeared to be getting ready to land at Dayton Int'l. Coulldn't see the details but assuming it was Champaign Gal from Urbana .. Perhaps it will be on static display during the show ... only a guess on my part.

Since they moved up here from Texas to JBLM, today is the first time I've seen an AH-64 overhead, pretty high (around 7000) must be looking at the scenery change from flat and dusty tan to mountains and green. Pretty distinctive rotor noise not loud, just sounds 'busy'.

I expect the sky to get full of different stuff with the Arlington EAA Fly-In coming up next Wednesday-Sunday.

I didn't see it, but I heard it... about 11:30 this morning someone flew over my house in a P-51. There's no mistaking that sound! :supz:
