Looking for a photo, or artwork of some kind, showing a P-47C or other razorback from a head on view, but slightly to one side, and from low. want to get a new tattoo, at least I'm thinking about it. If anyone has a nice scan of the cover of the book "the 356th Fighter Group in action over europe" there's also another book that shows a razor back with a white cowling with the od and neutral gray, one word of the title is "thunderbolt".

Calf or back piece? It'd need to be pretty good sized to carry the thing off. Remember inks will spread a bit over time, newer inks not as badly as the really old stuff would but enough that you shouldn't want really fine lines and lots of ittsy bittsy detail. Find a really good artist, one who does a lot of intricate needlework, look at his art book (photos of previous stuff) show him what you have in mind and most importantly LISTEN to what he suggests. A lot can be 'suggested' by tone and shading.
I've got a Von Dutch inspired flying eyeball on my right bicep (7 in X 7 in) and in 11 years the outline ink has spread a little bit, the shading is still bright and tight, be aware, some folks don't 'take' yellow ink well and it fades quickly (not an issue with me) but I doubt mine would 'blob out' before I leave this plain of existance for the next one-got a few others, skulls, a skull smoking a ceegar, a first nations Raven and my first one, a flaming, stabbed broken heart (guess what inspired that).
Put the artwork somewhere that you can see it on a regular basis (like the door to the fridge)and see if you can live with it.

I think it would be very cool! :supz:

I ran into a guy a few years ago while in College, and he had a flight of Avengers tattooed on his right arm and it was done with only black ink for shading, it looked cool. I want to dedicate something to my favorite fighter and would do it the same way, just black and white shading. I'm also considering doing something to commemorate my grand uncle and his loss in a B-29 during the war. I took my airline checkride on the anniversary of him being shot down, so feeling like he was with me, I want to do something that will commemorate both.
