Warbird Information Exchange

This summer, I will be traveling from Colorado to the great state of Oregon, and am going to stop by the Evergreen Aviation Museum, as well as the Tillamook Aviation Museum on my way to Bandon, Oregon for a family reunion. Can any recommend anything else to see in the area (Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it up to FHC), or does anyone have contacts at either museum so that we can get a little more behind the scenes with the aircraft? Have heard there is a way to gain cockpit access at Tillamook... is this true? We will be at both museums on Saturday, July 28th, with Evergreen in the morning and Tillamook in the afternoon. Anyone desire photos of anything while we are there?

Have fun! It will be a great trip. You should stop by the Bomber for dinner. That is the B-17 ontop of the gas station. At Tillamook you can pay a few bucks per plane, and they will get you in there and take some pics of you in the planes. It's worth the money and goes to a good thing.

If you're coming from the east, visit the Western Antique Aeroplane and Auto Museum in Hood River. It will be on your way if go on the south side of the Columbia River. It's a beautiful trip that way...and you could stop at Multlomah Falls to boot (a nice thing to see to placate non-aviation partners/spouses, etc).

BTW: The Boeing 40 mentioned on their website spends only the winter there.
In the summer, it's being flown by its owner out of Felts Field, Spokane.

Can't remember the name but in the area is another group of aircraft in an old blimp hanger. There are a couple real rare types. None of them are roped off so you can get up close. May be soneone here can fill in the location. If you have time the Tillamook cheeze factory is worth a look.

Tillamook is in an old blimp hangar, although I think they are building a new museum building.

When I was the blimp hangar 3 years ago, everything in the warbird area (as opposed to the hangar itself wher they keep the Neptune, etc) was roped-off.

Heck yeah! Pics are always great. We paid to get inside the P-47. Zack is a P-47 nut, andI worked on Hairless Joe that is in the collection, so it was a win win. Right next to the museum is a guy selling Stinson rides. I actually flew in this very plane back when it was in Pittsburgh. It was a shock to see it there.

You forgot the wonderful airplane and old car museum @ Pearson Field in Vancouver, WA. Pearson is also the oldest airfield still in operation in the U.S. predating College Park, Lincoln Beachey landed an early dirigible at Ft. Vancouver, it's the only airfield in the U.S. completely inside a National Parkand it's where the Il-25 landed in 1935 after it's record flight from the Rodina.
I'm surprised STONEY wasn't on that like a Robert Hall suit since he roosts very close by.

Be sure to get there early enough. Last time I stopped on the way through it was too late in the day, and while the fort and gardens are neat, it's just wasn't the same.
