The drone is actually one that doesn't even fly, nor is there anything actually "in" it. From what I know, it was one that was shot down near Baghdad a few years ago and put back together with the auspices of using it as a prop or display piece.

Well now that even makes less sense than if he had a reason to guard the thing  Why the need for a guard if there's nothing to guard? I'm sorry but this picture is obsurd, overblown and unneccessary. Even if he is a Rockford Police Officer you would think the guy or department would have enough class and professionalism to at least wear an appropriate uniform, and if what you say is true about this drone being a shell of a drone then there is absolutely NO reason to be packing a weapon like this guy has. It's simply nonsense.

that is pretty sad if the police dept can spare one of their cops to guard a fake plane, that means:

A. There is no crime in Rockford and he isn't needed in a more important place like fighting crime
B. There isn't a traffic issue at the airshow and he isn't needed to help direct traffic
C. Rockford is overstaffed in cops and he is wasting tax payer's money by guarding a fake plane.

A. Seriously? 1 freaking RFD officer is guarding a plane, that from my experience with the first RFD airshow, had a guard requested and everyone starts freaking out. Is everyone going to freak out because the Thunderbirds had an overnight armed guard... no wait guards?
B. Traffic is an issue at the show, the show is also inside of an active passenger airport (TSA Regulations as well aka no water)
C. Overstaffed? Are you freaking kidding me? The guy probably came in on an off day. Police departments do have multiple shifts you know?
