As you (might) know - it is not my job to recruit for Warbirds of America.

But I will NEVER forget the kindness extended to TEXAS RAIDERS on our first (return to flight) tour in 2010 when we were having our troubles. This was from both the Warbirds group AND the Fabric Recovering workshop folks.

If you have a few bucks to spare maybe join EAA Warbirds of America.

PS- And THEN go join the Commemorative Air Force and tell 'em I sent you!

Yep, join them both! As for Aluminum Overcast, replacement control surfaces are on a truck heading for CO as I type. The tour will continue shortly.

Glad to hear the damage wasn't too severe. Didn't Nine-Oh-Nine have to have some skins replaced due to hail damage a few years ago?

It appears they put out a orange cone for every hailstone...

Steve,
The other incident happened before my time, so to speak. But I got this from Tom Newton, and it is even more interesting than I would have guessed.

"Collings' B-17 and B-24 got beat up by hail at Addison in 2003. A storm rolled through in the middle of the night. As a maintenance guy, I can tell you how disheartening it is to be caught in a circumstance like that. They borrowed control ...surfaces while theirs were being recovered so they could make tour commitments. The Gulf Coast Wing and Lone Star Flight Museum were instrumental in that effort. It was great to see differences being put aside when another group was in trouble."

So THAT is what I know about THAT.

Thanks, Spanner..I was thinking that the Collings B-17 acutally got a fair bit of sheet metal damage sometime back in the 90s and had some skins replaced.

By th e by, do you know exactly how long Texas Raiders will be in the Dayton area in August? We'll be passing through there on vacation, but probably not until Monday the 6th.
