Wendover WWII tower restoration done!

Tue Jun 05, 2012 12:50 pm

Here is a link to the news story about the restoration of the WWII tower here in Wendover. Hopefully in the next couple of months we will have a original barracks done as well.

Heck of an undertaking and spectacular looking results :prayer: Let's hope the renovations can be expanded to return at least a portion of this historic spot back to the way it looked when the job done there really counted for freedom and visitors can get a bit of the feel of the place at that time.

Is that an accurate paint scheme/colors? (Yes, I'm just kidding). Great job!

Trojan II - on the colors - trust me, you can only imagine the battle over what correct tint of orange is proper

We do have one of the original barracks in the pipeline - to bring it back to useable it is getting siding, rewired to current code and windows restored to the original state of being able to somewhat keep the elements out

I'll post photos when I can.

Congratulations and a big pat on the back!

Seeing those kids take an interest in the site is fantastic. That's the future of the warbird/historic preservation movement you're inspiring right there. Great work.

i drive by, [and go in when ever possible] these historic air fields, ask the clerk on duty about the history of the place and quickly find out that i know a LOT more about it than they do. and many are closed up tight, falling down, or disappered without so much as even a historical marker. i am so proud of you guys up there at Wendover for keeping this air field ALIVE! WELL DONE!!!

Congrats on your achievement Tom. Can't wait to see more. Even better will be hopefully eventually seeing it in person one day down the road. :)

Now, if they could just get that B-29 from Barksdale to put in that hangar pop2 everyone wins

Has "FI-FI" ever stopped by for a photo-op?
Maybe a request/invite should be sent.
Thx,
VL

I was there a couple years ago flying Gretchen Wilson and it is an awesome place with lots of WW II era buildings still standing. What, 13 or so original hangars still standing? Still have the long parallel runways and the original base chapel. Although the base chapel has been turned into rental apts. it's still the only original one I've ever seen.
