My thoughts exactly. And how many times here on the WIX have we said placing a shuttle on the Intrepid was a mistake. Dont say we didnt tell you so! Hopefully heads at NASA are rolling.

The damage is unfortunate, but I'm sure that is can be repaired. What is more concerning is the water spray/mist the Shuttle is being subjected to during the barge tow. I'm a little surprised they didn't "wrap" it with something to prevent salt water (or any water) contaminents from getting on the surface. This could be very bad for the long term of the vehicle. Any type of ocean spray needs to be removed within hours (theres a book answer that escapes me at the moment)via fresh water rinse...

More proof that NASA administrator Charles Bolden, who by himself decided where the shuttles would go, is a political hack! What a waste of a National treasure!

I'm not a "airman" so I rarely have a valuable opinion to share on this forum, but having sailing since I'm one year old, I would say: How the heck it's possible to tow a so valuable bird with the wings OUTSIDE the barge without any protection ?
When you see on the pictures how small is the place between the two piers, with a bit onf wind, the probabilty to be too close of one of the pier is simply too high, to have been neglected.
