I am trying to establish whether the F variant of the F-105 was ever used in bombing operations from 1965. That is, no G-version split pod or underwing ECM pods.

Any information or direction to sources would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

Don't know if this answers your specific question, but the Leo Thorsness wiki page details the F model he flew during his MOH mission and the NMUSAF F-105G page details that airframe's 1967 combat history as an F-model, then "In 1972 the aircraft was modified to the improved F-105G "Wild Weasel" configuration."

Thanks for your reply.

On the basis of what you have supllied and what I have to hand, I will conclude that the F version was not used in a primary bomber role.

They appear to have carried bombs seemingly without ECMs, perhaps as late as 1972. This, however is based on one photo and its ambiguous caption in one book, 'F-105 Thunderchief Units of the Vietnam War' (Osprey), p. 89.

I was merely supplying a tidbit of info, as I had not known when the F became the G before looking for myself. I would hesitate making any conclusions until you have done more research.
