My wife and I traveled to Yap Island in October to search for my uncle's B-24 that was lost over Yap on 25 June 1944 with the 307th Bomb Group. More information about my search project can be located at
www.MissingAirCrew.com. Although we did not find my uncle's B-24 on this trip we were able to locate numerous American crash sites and conducted many interviews with Yapese elders. We interviewed two Yapese elders who witnessed the shoot down and crash of my uncles planes therefore, we have a solid location to explore on our Phase II search trip next year.

American Crash Sites on Yap:

Hellcat Crash Site #1
Hellcat Crash Site #2
Continental 727 Crash Site on Yap
Japanese Crash Sites on Yap: Japanese Betty Bomber Wreck Site
Japanese Tabby, Showa/Nakajima L2D (version of Douglas DC-3) Wreck Site

While on Yap we dove the waters off the reef, hacked through jungles and mangrove swamps to document the American crash sites including two Hellcat crash sites, one Corsair crash site, and multiple Japanese crash sites.
