Another milestone this Saturday. While many of our troops were engaged in helping with the Spring Fling at Meacham, others kept working on the K. JR and company have just about redone all of the rudder boost trim mechanism in the rudder. This was like doing major surgery just to get at it. It is such a vital system that I liken it to the heart of the rudder and this was open heart surgery. It was such a relief when the team "closed" on it. The operation was a success. Just a few more cosmetic things to do on the rudder and it will be ready to re-install. Our CAF A-26 friends came through with some gap seal material they had left over from their install on the rudder and elevators on 240P. They also loaned us an elevator gap seal to use as a model since some of our metal parts were missing or broken. Many thanks to the CAF guys and gals. I still have fond memories of playing in 240P after it was confiscated in Amarillo by the local county mountie. Kept an eye on it until the Waco guys came up to get it back together enough to ferry home several years later. So we have history. Maybe that is where my love affair with A-26's started?? The B25 is still my favorite, but after I get a chance to fly the K, may have to do a re-order of faves. That works with wives and girlfriends, right? So why not airplanes?? OK, O2 lady, don't have a cow, I was just kidding. Consider it a belated April Fool's joke. :-) The Other JR

On to other business. We were happy to have Jason Barnett from Houston join us for Spring Fling at Meacham last Saturday. He really helped us out with his contribution of some of the rudder trim parts. Many thanks, Jason!! The picture on the right shows the re-assembled mechanism that runs the rudder trim tab back and forth. Kinda handy little piece of hardware especially if an engine decides to misbehave. It is a little more serious when our engine quits than the O2's push me, pull me. At least it crashes straight ahead, we whip upside down and make great gyrations thru the sky unless we can put 300 lbs of force on the rudder pedal if it doesn't feather. Guess I better get back to the gym because I don't think I am good but for maybe 220 lbs. Good thing that rudder trim crank is right beside my right arm. We also don't have water meth injection and 145 octane fuel so maybe it won't be all that bad. Famous last words, huh O2 lady?? I must say, BTW, I was very impressed with your ability to drive a tractor one handed. Did you learn that on the farm or did you just put a spell on it and command it to go? :-) the Other JR

Can't remember where it was, but we used 145 octane for making napes. Seems that they had more of that available than the regular stuff so we used that. I also used to mix 145 with the varsol we used to clean the guns to make it a little more "potent".

We are always pleased to have guests, but this is a special one. Rand's father-in-law came by to see his handiwork on the cockpit restoration. He was very impressed as are we with the work Rand is doing there. His father-in-law was an AF pilot and as he was telling us about the airplanes he flew, I somehow fixated on F-86 and went whoa.... my favorite airplane... I mean fighter wise. Not saying I love it more than the B25 or A26, but if I could have an F86 ride, I might give up half my sins. Did you hear that, God?? Half.. this is a huge number!! I mean, who wouldn't? Missed my chance to get checked out in one in '97. My little ol credit card just wouldn't cover that much gas back in the day. Bummer! JR

You lucky you didn't burn yourself up with that stuff. It didn't have to catch fire to burn you purty good... 145. So didja figure out the question about the sisterhood of 640 and 679. The previous N numbers are a clue. There were 3 of the airplanes that all had a G at the end of the N number.

John.. would you mind admitting what she has on you?? Or is this just another manifestation of her spells and poxes?? Is it too early for Halloween yet? Oh, that reminds me, the boss is talking about having another Spring Fling, but it will be a Fall Fling... maybe Oct 6 at Meacham. Just in time for Halloween... so she has plenty of time to get the 100 hr done on her broom so maybe she can fly this time instead of pretend to drive a tractor?? Just asking is all.... JR
