I know alot of you build models, here's a place for you to discuss model related items and to post pictures of your projects.

Just finished up another Zero, this time out of 7Up. Tried a couple new techniques for a smoother and cleaner build. It really shows along the surface of the wings where excess glue had been problematic in the past.

That's very cool. What did you use for the radial engine "jugs"?

JLO,
My hat is off to you. Your planes are beyond awesome. How do you glue the leading and trailing edges down? Does all that hot glue stay glued long term? How about a Corsair tutorial?

Very cool!!! :drink3:

Do you sustain many injuries doing this kind of stuff?

so far, no cut :-)

I am running a very large bead of hot glue on the bottom half of wing at the leading edge. I simply place the leading edge of the top half across the leading edge of the bottom half. I quicly eyeball the angle as the glue cools. If I don't get it right, I take a hot iron to the bottom of wing and remelt glue. Works like a champ.

This was my prototype Zero. Not much has changed on the engine. I am learning to get less glue all over the place.... :supz:

Since I planned on painting the nose, I used whatever cans I had laying around. Start by cutting top off as shown
Image
Next collect 42 tabs and put in 6 stacks of 7 and glue. Form center section(same as wheel s in warthog build). Glue 6 stacks around circumference of center section.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Cut out prop, glue to second layer as shown and trim using original as template, repeat for other two. Center section is made the same way except it is three layers instead of two.
Image
Image
I chose to paint the nose section to give it the Zero look
Image
Glue engine as shown to slightly diameter reduced can bottom and cut a hole in the center, and drop into nose as shown. Once in position, glue around can bottom with a heavy bead of glue.

Install long skinny screw through center of propeller assy, insert in drilled hole, flip over and drip glue down screw.

Here are some pics of a one of my Corsairs. This was an early build I wasn't really happy with several things on it so I did a partial rebuild where I built a new rear fuselage and canopy.

The wings consist of short stubs coming off the fuselage meeting up with the longer main portion of the wing. On an earlier version I added a 3/4" strip where the joints meet to smooth the transition a little more.

Nice Corsair and Zero. I am really enjoying seeing these builds. I've always wondered if this could be done, I just never had the artistic vision to figure it out.

What type of tools do you use to cut the cans?

Great work and thanks for sharing it with us.

The tools are really basic. I use a dremel with cut off wheel to cut the ends off the cans. The only other tools are X Acto knife, scissors, hot glue, straight edge, masking and scotch tape.

I would really encourage you to give it a try, it has been a blast!

You have some beautiful, beautiful work here! Is there any chance that you share the designs of how to make these planes? Like...the C-130 in particular?
