Thanks for the warning.

The first one sucked so bad I only watched it once and that was too much.

I'll be sure to miss this one. Hopefully someone will make dog food out of Maverick.

Too bad the real star of the movie has been scrapped. I refer of course to the F-14. Now they're gonna have to make do with a bunch of planes named after an insect.

I guess he's not too old to fly a drone yet.

Ah yes. Top Gun. The movie where Tom Cruise says everything twice, everything twice. "I'm on him, I'm on him!" I'm firing, I'm firing!" "Eject, eject."

Yawn.

Exactly - from an ex-Tomcat maintainer, it was the F-14 that starred in the movie, not Tom Cruise.

If they really wanted to make a sequel to this movie, they should have done it when the F-14 was still in service. It remained in service for 20 years after the movie came out and a sequel should have been made by 2002 or 2003 at the latest. Tom Cruise could have played a Commander in the role that Tom Skerritt/Viper had in the first movie.

Without the Tomcat and the Navy cooperating, a sequel doesn't make much sense. Well they could use CGI I suppose........

I sincerely doubt that Kelly McGillis is going to play anybody's "hottie" in Top Gun II.

I actually preferred 'Flight of the Intruder', which was made to capitalize on the success of TG. Stephen Coonts has a whole series of Jake Grafton novels, and the original plan was to continue the films like Paramount did with the Clancy novels. Unfortunately the delayed the release until January 1991 on the Friday after the Gulf War started. (When at the time no one knew what was going to happen). The theater was empty.

I'd wish Paramount would reboot the Clancy/Jack Ryan series. Start with a prequal of sorts to Red October, Red Storm Rising and let it take place during the cold war.

I don't now if they would work now. Hollywood seems to be on a kick where the US/CIA are the bad guys.
Probably sells more tickes overseas.

My favorite "Top Gun" line is uttered by "Iceman" during combat manuvers...."Just five more minutes!" Five minutes!!!! In air combat, that's an eternity!!!!!

They did, with 'The Sum of all Fears' back in 2002

In it's day (1985) I think TG was pretty good. I grew up next to Miramar, lived under the flight path and had F-14 pilots as several of my neighbors (including my next door neighbor who was a TG instructor). So I was pretty familiar with the real TG school. Yeah, there was some liberties taken. I loved them being out over the desert when they eject and land in the ocean, which is 100 miles away. By today's standards, the movie sucks.

With that said, I think if they make a sequel, it's gonna be a dog. I can't stand TC anymore and really don't care to see his mug.
