But I'm not giving up my day job...

The May issue of Aviation History magazine arrived in the mail today containing my story, "Marine Chopper Salvage." It chronicles the first couple months operation in Korea by HMR-161, using their Sikorsky HRS-1's to prove the value of vertical envelopment and culminates in the salvage operation for two of their aircraft - which crashed on the same day - and the rebuilding of one from the parts.

Enjoy!

Well done!

I love helicopter history.

So many "aviation history" buffs/experts are totally ignorant of helicopters, it's always good to see more published.

Believe it or don't, I scan my newly arrived magazines and prioritize the order I'm going to read the articles in, and yours came up first. Well done and not only an interesting main tale, but the backstory stuff was what I look for, the nitty and the gritty details of 'so, how'd they get to __________'? And you answered all that very well.

Congratulations Craig
I still remember exiting HR-1 by rope over Korea while hovering.

Thank you, Tom - in more ways than one! You're quoted in the article so, you'll want to pick up a copy.

Well done! There's plenty of room for writers, particularly good writers.

It is possible to make it the day job, just! The big question there is if that's what you really want. Most (rightly) don't, and it can be a great alternative to the day job, and give a structure and focus to an interest or hobby.

Keep it going, and best of luck with that.

Way to go Craig! There's just nothing in the world that can describe the feeling of getting published for the first time. For me, it was the June '07 issue of Flight Journal. I'll never forget the moment I saw the issue on the magazine stands at the local Barnes and Noble. What a moment.

Here's to your First Publication! :drink3:
