Does anyone know what happened to the Rex at the Nimitz museum in Texas? I heard it was sold to get money for buying a PT boat.

Thanks
Adam Kline

what? What? WHAT?!?

--please tell me this is just something you overheard at a bar in Fredericksburg. In other words, what is your source and what's the reliability of your source?

I just emailed the curator at the museum about it. I will let everyone know when I get a response. :supz:

The Willow Grove Rex is now in storage at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, with damage in transit (see another recent link for photos).

A second Rex is in storage at the Garber Facilty of the NASM.

The Nimitz example is a third Rex in the US; it have been there since at least the 1970s.

I have spoken to the Curator and the Kawanishi N1K Kyofu IS still at the Museum displayed in the George Bush gallery.

Where did this rumor come from?

I just received the exact response from Mike Lebens who is the curator.

Thanks guys. Sorry to get everyone in a tizzy. My friend went there and where the Rex used to be on display was gone. I don't know who he talked too, but someone must have given him the wrong information. I apologize for any rumor this may have created. Good to know it is still there.

I think they moved it inside recently. A good development (and probably where the confusion stems from)

I previously posted some photos from my visit over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Rex was indoors and looking great at that time!

Why yes I did! He told me after spending 6 days creating stuff including the Rex, he was so tired he took the 7th day off to relax by the pool and consume mass quantaties of Miller Lite. I told him he deserved it and to have some beers for me. :drink3: :drink3: :drink3:
