Are you reffering to the gear wells and landing gear on the CORSAIR not being painted to match the underside color like they should be,the ATF required muzzle plugs that a little red or yellow tape application might help, or the glazing for the non standard backseat?

Yep! Yep! and Yep! along with the fact I have never seen a Corsair with gun barrels sticking out like that. Until now. I'd still take it home anyday.

The PBY with "prop cones" is a Super Cat (with B-25 QECs).

Next time you are out there take a look at the Corsair and see if you can spot the bullitt hole it received in the ElSalador/Honduras War. It was left in there after restoration and even after it flipped in the ditch at Crystal a/p in minn.

I'm actually out here in Palm Springs again, I'll stop by shortly and see if I can find the hole and take a photo of it. Thx for the heads up on that.

IMHO, half time super bowls suck

We need to get rid of these has-been retreads, and get a real classic American act for the half-time show! :drink3:

I think he has a pic of it already but not close up. If I remember correctly there's a bullet hole through one or both gear doors on the LH side?

Indeed, I took that photo in close to show what condition they were/are in after many years under water.

No luck, I looked yesterday and could not find a hole. Asked around as well and no one seemed to know about a bullet hole. Hmmm! Doesn't mean there isn't one somewhere though.

It is there. It is on the inboard gear door on the left side.
Was there more than one P-51 at PSAM? I think Lynn is trying to determine if the Red Tail Mustang is 151BP which was silver and "that" Blue, coded E2*S or is the Redtail a different Mustang altogether. Speaking of that Mustang it looks like it has an engine installed with a prop now...

Was out there last April, and that poor SBD really needs a full re-do. However, the ship models are beyond amazing... I don't recall the exact story, but they're built by a local couple and the detail on them is absolutely astonishing. Speaking as a modeler, I wish I had 1/10th the talent they do for doing something like that full-interior Fleet boat, but the roughly joined exterior plates sort of detracted from the overall effect for me. Still, overall I'd have to say the ship models and the uniform and jacket collections may have impressed me more than the actual aircraft there (except for the B-17, which I got a full tour of).

Ploesti, did you take any pics of the cutaway B-17 next to the full-sized one? That model was just astonishing as well.

That Museum looked a lot better to me when it was still in Minnesota :(
