Tennessee Museum of Aviation Warbird Weekends

Sun Feb 12, 2012 1:15 pm

Anybody know if/when the Tennessee Museum of Aviation will be holding its warbird weekends this year? If I understand correctly, they have had one in the spring and another fall event in the past.

I'm trying to figure out if there's anything I can go to this year besides the shows at Shaw AFB and Winston-Salem.

They haven't posted anything yet on their homepage or Facebook, which is kind of how they do things. April and September are the months that they usually do the fly-ins. With the T-bolts hitting TOM this year, maybe they'll have a few more local flying events.

Last year on the weekend of Memorial Day, they had a very nice small event:

T-28 Trojan, Beech 18, and A-1H Skyraider "Lieutenant America" performed unscheduled flight demonstrations.

Bob Ford flew his AT-6 Texan "Paradise" in for the afternoon and put on an impressive show as he departed.

P-47 Thunderbolt "Hun Hunter XVI" and P-47 Thunderbolt "Wicked Wabbit" Flight Demonstration -- both P-47's flew at 2:00pm

I hope for another such event this year -- I always "need" an excuse to hang out around Sevierville for a couple days

Going by what they did last year, the spring event will likely be on Memorial Day Weekend and the fall event the third weekend in Sep. The events are a single day (Saturday) now. Their website updates can be slow in coming. Normally, announcements are 4-6 weeks ahead for museum events.

Thanks for the information guys. Hopefully I'll be able to make the May event.
